Are you confused about which test your student should take for college admissions and when to take them? Do you know the difference between the tests? Please read Taking the Tests that was researched and written by the advisors at the CUSD College and Career Planning Center.

VERY IMPORTANT:
The University of California testing requirement is different than California State University. The UC's require:

  • The ACT Assessment plus Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test. The critical reading, writing and mathematics scores on the SAT must be from the same sitting. If you take the ACT, you will be asked to report your scores on each section of the test as well as your composite score.
  • SAT Subject Tests (not required by California State Universities)
                         CLASS OF 2010 AND 2011
                          2 Subject tests
    required--
These must be taken in two different areas, chosen from the following:
English, history and social studies, mathematics (Level 2 only), science or
                                                          language other than English.

                          CLASS OF 2012
    and beyond
                          Subject tests
    not
required--Students may submit scores on these if you want to show your mastery of
a particular subject. Some campuses may recommend certain Subject
Tests for some competitive majors. Also, you may use them to satisfy
                                                            a-g" requirements
  • Testing must be COMPLETED no later than December of the senior year, preferably completed by the end of the junior year!
